National Pet Month Myth Busters – part 1

Time to bust some myths about #NationalPetMonth. In the first of three blogs we explain why we really do need your support throughout the year.

For the whole of April and the first week in May we’ve celebrated the joy of pet ownership, we’ve talked about the importance of caring for a pet responsibly. Some of us have even attended or organised fun and educational events about pet care, sharing our Top 10 Tips and raising cash for a favourite UK pet charity.

Sponsored walks, sky dives, afternoon tea parties and bake sales, open days, quizzes, lessons in the classroom, pet visits to residential care homes, even bingo-athons and church services. Everyone from vets to charity volunteers, of all ages and backgrounds have joined in the fun.

So, that’s it. It’s May and #NationalPetMonth’s (NPM) work is done for another year. Wrong. Time to bust some myths about NPM and explain why we need your support throughout the year, not just in April.

Myth No 1: National Pet Month is all about one month

National Pet Month is not just about the month of April, it’s a unique educational charity whose trustees and staff work throughout the year for the benefit of pets and their owners. Find out more here and meet some of the team. https://www.nationalpetmonth.org.uk/about-us

The campaign month, when we ask UK pet fans, vet and pet professionals to celebrate pet ownership with us, spread messages around responsible pet care and raise cash for UK pet charities, often runs into May too, to make the most of the first May bank holiday weekend.

#NationalPetMonth 2019 will run from April 1-May 6 - put the dates in the diary so you can start planning your fundraisers!

New for 2018 is our #PetCareAware initiative designed to bring pet friendly organisations together under one roof to discuss pet health and welfare issues and promote the responsible pet care message throughout the year. Check it out. https://www.nationalpetmonth.org.uk/pet-care-aware/
