MEET COCO: THE PARROT WHO TRAINED HER HUMAN

With a taste for pop music, a perfectly trained human and a daily routine that includes chatting to the neighbours and being admired from afar, this feathered friend is living the high life.

I am Coco - the Green Cheeked Conure.

I got my human 12 years ago now and I’ve just about got her trained.  I have to say I did get lucky, for a human she is surprisingly intelligent.  It only took 3 weeks of training for her to understand, that “hold my hand” by Jess Glynn is my favourite song.

Every time the holiday advert came on, I would squawk and fly to the ledge above the TV to let her know I liked it.  She now has this on her mobile and we play it in the morning when we get ready for the day together. My food throughout the day consists of a healthy variety of complete bird food, seeds and fresh produce. This means I will have all my nutrients for shiny feathers, strong bones, bright eyes and a healthy beak - keeping me active, alert and ready for adventure!

I have my own room in the house we share.  My human has hung a rope from one side of the room to the other in front of the large window, so I can perch on it and chat to Denis (another human) who lives in the garden next door.

I have plenty of foraging toys, some of them hanging from the rope (I don’t want to get bored). My human goes out to work, which I don’t approve of, but she says she has to, so she can buy my bird foods.

Before going out, she scatters and hides some of my food and treats so I am busy and active throughout the day foraging. While she is out, she does check in on me via a camera perched on top of the TV.

When I hear her call me, I get so excited and run along the rope and perch myself on top of the curtain rail by the camera, so we can then have a chat.

Overall, I must admit, I have a good life and cannot grumble.
