Children at St Vincent’s Primary school, Mill Hill East, have been announced the winners of the National Pet Month schools competition. Working to the theme “A happy pet I know”, the children sent in an array of colourful pictures depicting their happy pets. The theme was used to highlight National Pet Month’s top 10 tips for responsible pet ownership.
The presentation ceremony at the school was attended by Nicole Paley from National Pet Month and Hilary Frank from the local Medivet practice and a talk on pet care was given. According to Debbie Lavelle, project leader and cat lover “The children really engaged in the project and it was easy to get over some important messages using a subject they clearly loved.” Hilary Frank added: “Pets can bring so many benefits to families and in return it’s important they get the care they deserve, the pictures we’ve seen from the children reflect how the good care tips have been taken on board.”
National Pet Month 2010 was a great success with over 1200 events taking place up and down the country raising £80,000 for at least 30 animal charities. Next year’s event will run from 02 April – 02 May.
