National Pet Month grows by more than 100,000 pet fans on eve of silver anniversary celebrations

UK charity National Pet Month – April 1 to May 5, 2014 is looking forward to connecting with thousands more pet lovers after stepping in to save two of Facebook’s best loved pet communities on the eve of its 25th anniversary.

Park Bench and Scratching Post, which have more than 100,100 followers, looked set to close for good when the petnet website it was connected to closed at the end of August.

But determined to save the two enthusiastic and close online communities, National Pet Month, which celebrates its silver anniversary in 2014, took action and in September officially took over the two Facebook sites.

“We’re absolutely delighted to be welcoming the Park Bench and Scratching Post communities into the National Pet Month family and really looking forward to connecting with the thousands of cat and dog lovers who regularly post on the two pages, sharing their stories and their love for their pets,” says Phil Sketchley, Chairman of National Pet Month.

The National Pet Month team are really looking forward to bringing fans of Park Bench and Scratching Post loads of dog and cat related news and pictures, overseeing these two massive communities as they continue to grow and thousands of pet fans connect and share stories of life with their beloved animals.

“These are two truly amazing communities that reflect just how much our pets mean to us and fit perfectly with the key aims of National Pet Month which include promoting responsible pet ownership and helping to raise cash for the UK’s pet charities,” says Phil.

“What a wonderful way to start our 25th anniversary celebrations. It’s going to be a fantastic year for Park Bench, Scratching Post and National Pet Month’s Facebook communities and we can’t wait to see the three communities come together for National Pet Month’s 2014 campaign which kicks off on April 1.”

During National Pet Month 2014 (April 1 to May 5) there’ll be so much to see and do – a whole host of competitions for schools, pets and owners and all kinds of fun events taking place across the country.

National Pet Month is urging pet fans across the UK to stage their own fundraising events in aid of a favourite pet charity.

There really is so much animal fans can do to help spread the responsible pet ownership message during National Pet Month’s Silver Anniversary year – the only limit is their imagination.
